“Who Needs a Wedding Planner Anyway?”

In a world where “Do It Yourself” has its own popular acronym, it’s understandable that many don’t see the value in hiring a wedding planner. Many 21st century brides are opting to have DIY weddings, with a hands-on approach to every detail, from décor to coordinating their own wedding rehearsals! And with many online resources and apps that take some of the mystery out of steps to planning a wedding, it’s not inconceivable that couples are going it alone.
So who needs a wedding planner anyway? The short answer is - EVERYONE GETTING MARRIED!
I am not just saying that because I am a planner, but because it is a well-known fact in the industry that most couples that chose to go it alone would hire a planner if they could do it all again.
Here are a few reasons why:
1. Planners are creative
Many couples have only a vague idea of what they want for their weddings. A planner can take your vague ideas and turn it into a full blown vision. Or give you ideas when you don’t even know where to start. Planners understand how to take each couple’s story, and turn it into a wedding that reflects their one of a kind union. It is a planner’s job to keep up-to-date on trends and to constantly seek out ways to make couples have a special and unique experience.
2. Planners have the know-how
You may already have a full vision of what you want. You have seen it in your dreams a million times: your perfect wedding day. But you have no clue how to make your dreams a reality. Chances are, if you’ve dreamt it, the planner already knows the perfect venue, entertainment, caterers, etc to bring that vision to life. We already have it all figured out. We have done the research. We have the experience. We are ready to execute. Skip the learning curve and hire a professional.
3. You just don’t have that kind of time or energy
Wedding planning is very stressful and time consuming. It takes months, sometimes over a year, to work out the various details. Just trying to balance the long list of things to do ahead of your nuptials, as well as to balance the budget, can put a strain on your marriage before it even starts. Planners are organized and meticulous. Aside from keeping you on target and on budget, a wedding planner can relieve the general stress and be a great support when wedding preparations get hectic.
4. You really cannot do it all yourself
Even if you have super human abilities and are specifically gifted with creativity and superb organizational skills, you really can’t do it all. Imagine for a second that it is your wedding day. And on that day you’re trying to: ensure guests are all in place, vendors have delivered all they need to, the décor is set up to your liking, the DJ/band is on point and ready to play all the right songs at the right moment, the wedding photographers are capturing all the right moments, all vendors are receiving their final deposits, all while getting your hair and makeup done! That doesn’t sound very fun, does it? You have enough to do to get ready on the big day. You shouldn’t have to be running around trying to coordinate things. At the very least you should hire a wedding planner to do a day of wedding coordinating service.
5. Hiring a planner may SAVE YOU MONEY
One of the main reasons that couples don’t hire a planner comes down to the dollars and cents. It makes sense to most that in order to save money it is better to not hire a planner. While it may be true that hiring a planner is not an absolute necessary expense (and perhaps is a luxury that some can’t afford) it is equally true that a planner can save you money. This is because a planner is likely to know all the ways to execute your wedding vision at a lower cost. They know the vendors that can give you the best value for money. They also know how to guide you in making strategic cuts of non-essential items when the budget gets tight. They know that you don’t have to give up an arm and a leg (and a spleen and a kidney) to make your wedding dreams come true. It is counter-intuitive, but it may actually be cheaper to hire a planner.
These are just a few of many advantages of hiring a planner.
Even if you are naturally a hands-on person or already started working on some details like the venue and caterer, you can still consider hiring a planner to do a partial wedding planning service. It would save you some time, energy and even some money, and it can bring your wedding dreams to the next level.
